Divergence
APPLICATIONS TO DIVERGENCE
A proper understanding of divergence and where it may occur is absolutely critical to the safe design of air vehicles and wind tunnel models. As divergence will result in the destruction of a vehicle and thus has a high probability of killing its passengers, when divergence is possible it will necessarily constrain the flight envelope.
Similarly, wind tunnel models may also suffer from divergence. While this is unlikely to result in fatalities, it may be expected to seriously damage the wind tunnel as pieces of the model bash themselves into the walls, fans, and motors needing expensive repairs to fix.
