WORK APPLICATIONS
The concepts of statics are used in engineering when loads are determined for objects at rest or at constant velocity. This can involve structures, from buildings, to prosthetics, to airfoils.
It is important that the principles of statics are well understood by engineers. An engineering problem can be thought of as a word problem, similar to word problems solved in mathematics. Statics provides the basics by which the equilibrium equations that govern the problem can be derived and applied.
Work can involve the calculation of potential energy but also it can be related to kinetic energy through the Principle of Work and Energy to calculate such things such as displacement, velocity and forces for a dynamics problem. Thus, the concept of work has additional importance in dynamics.
